Review of Pinocchio (1940) by Doctor P — 19 Apr 2011
Number 2 of the golden age of Disney, as well as in the Disney canon in general.
The animation here is great far superior to that of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" being the follow up it seems to be of no surprise. The characters are all fun to watch, Pinocchio carry's a childlike innocence that is rarely seen in modern day films, Jiminy Cricket is a lovable voice reason character and the rest of the cast of characters are just as great and memorable. The songs are classic and of course superior to that of "Snow White" especially considering that "When you Wish Upon a Star" has pretty much become the theme for the Disney company. The plot, while simple is very interesting to see as the chain of events roll on.
It's hard to say whether or not it has any weaknesses but if you're a parent chances are that you'll find the film to be a little darker then most animated films of today.
It's the follow up to the first Disney film and it shows, this film is vastly superior and is a true masterpiece.
