Review of Pink Flamingos (1976) by John M — 26 Jan 2009
The definitive gross-out comedy. Full of oddities and imagery which some people will love and some will be disgusted by.
As long as you watch it with an open mind and in the spirit it's meant to be received, you should get something out of it.
When I think of Pink Flamingos, though, it always brings a smile to my face. I can tell this great little piece of irreverent, campy, trashy fun was made with love and a big, steaming dollop of to-hell-with-it.
I adore it for its don't-care attitude; I adore it for its wonderful, gigglesome premise; I adore it for its unapologetic bad taste. In short, I absolutely adore this little gem from movie god, purveyor of glorious filth and all-round good egg, John Waters (reference to eggs wholly deliberate, by the way).
