Review of Pink Flamingos (1972) by Deana P — 25 Oct 2008
"Pink Flamingos" simultaneously disgusts you and rubs your disgust in your face. You, sitting there watching it between your fingers, are the person this film is mocking. It is the queen of black comedies, and though I can't say I'd like to see it again, it earns a cherished place in my favorites.
It exists in its own universe, and we as the audience are mere observers to the brilliance which is so unassuming that you'd think it's an accident. John Waters has cojones of bronze. See. This.
Movie. Especially if you're a student of film history or just a film history buff. Watch it with a barf bag if you must, but remember that there IS a point to the madness, and when you stop and think about it for a second, it is transparently clear.
