Review of Pina (2011) by Tor M — 01 Nov 2011
I have never herd about Pina Bausch before, but this tribute seemed very interesting. And in a way it surely was.
I haven't seen any of Wenders' films either, so this was a meeting with two new artists for me. Wenders puts a great mood to the dancing since he is choosing superb places to do the scenes. The tram, the city, and the wonderful shots in the glasshouse in the forest are all pretty images. Still I think that the stage with water and the large rock were the most impressive captions.
The problem is the dancing. I don't share a passion for dance. I don't hate it, but I don't care much about it. That's a pretty big catch here. Still, I was impressed by the dancers. The first half where ok, but the rest was great. Some cool moves and impressive shooting felt like a great combination. I didn't need to focus much, just watch it without thinking. This made me feel calm and dozy - a quite nice feeling actually.
So a unique film with great images. Sadly it's boring and it doesn't vary a lot. It's still worth a view for the calm and pretty scenes, and I say that even without watching it in 3D.
