Review of Pina (2011) by Robb C — 29 Jan 2012
Pina is an astounding look at the astounding work of German choreographer Pina Bausch. Her ensemble takes Dance to places that are, in turn, achingly beautiful, haunting, joyful, sad, scary. The spoken words of the dancers give us a glimpse into what it was like to be under Bausch's spell, and the dances themselves speak volumes in ways best understood deep in the psyche.
The 3D makes all of this all the more immediate. This movie is so captivating, so gorgeous to watch and so wonderfully weird that it cannot be adequately explained in words. You just have to witness it for yourself!
