Review of Pina (2011) by Sylvester E — 03 Mar 2012
Other than some of the atmospheres, this is a waste of time. The "dancing" in this is so lame. A story is obviously being told in the performances but you never find out what it is. Her style seemed like it mocked dance and all you had to do was something weird over and over to make a performance piece.
Almost everything dealt with struggle, pain, confusion, bondage and turmoil, not much joy or appreciation of life. Not worth your time of 1hr. 30min to find no good conclusion in any dance numbers. It is a documentary but even so there are no clear indications of what some pieces were expressing.
Pina may have been a talented dancer but she definitely had issues!
