Review of Pina (2011) by Josh S — 21 Mar 2012
What is it with the 70s German New Wave being so good with the latest 3-D technology? First Herzog and now Wenders. If only Fassbinder was still around. That said, this is ultimately an art documentary that tributes Pina's life and the legacy she has left behind.
All her dancers are featured beautifully throughout (performers from all around the globe) and the choreography is at times awe-inspiring. Seeing the bodies move about in such abstract and hypnotic interpretive dance moves is inspiring.
I can't say I understood everything but experiencing the 3-D helped engage me. Wenders brings us outside in settings that would be impossible on the stage.
