Review of Pillow Talk (1959) by David B — 31 Dec 2009
A handsome bachelor composer (Rock Hudson) and winsome interior decorator (Doris Day) share a telephone line and despise each other until fate conspires to intervene.
Another version of The Shop Around the Corner (1940), Hudson dupes Day by pretending to be a rich Texas gentleman looking for love.
True to the source material, Day's professional protagonist is refreshingly independent, particularly for the 1950s, and inevitably the gorgeous pair dazzle on screen.
Tony Randall is good in support as the charmless -- and losing -- suitor, but it's Hudson who steals the show, even if Day's ultimate surrender is somewhat less than elegant.
