Review of Pillow Talk (1959) by Kristi W — 02 Jul 2010
Funny how you can watch a movie from 50+ years ago and still be able to relate to it. Basically, boy and girl hate each other, boy lies to girl to get her to like him, girl finds out and gets pissed, boy realizes he has fallen in love with her and tries desperately everything he can think of to win her back. Plus they throw a bit of comedy in there. However, there's definitely something that makes me really happy about the 50's feel. Can you really beat Doris Day and Rock Hudson? I don't think so.
There's always that token comedy character in the movie, too. I LOVE Thelma Ritter as Alma in this movie. She plays Doris Day's housekeeper and shows up every morning totally hung over and then spends the whole day listening to some random guy's sexy phone calls. I would love to get paid to do that!
