Review of Piku (2015) by Debsuvra G — 18 Jul 2015
Piku is a light hearted entertainer where you will get to see a father, a daughter, a taxi owner and their journey from Delhi to Kolkata. Deepika as Piku has delivered an excellent performance where Amitabh Bachchan as Bhashkor Banerjee is so natural that for once you will forget that is this guy a real Amitabh Bachchan? Irrfan Khan as Rana Chowdhary, a taxi owner who has a soft corner for Piku and he is the person who drives Piku and his father to their native land.
"Constipation" is the major topic of this film and it shows how a daughter and his father deals with this problem everyday. Bhashkor Banerjee, a 70 year old man faces a serious health issue of constipation where he tries everything to clear his system but fails everytime.
Piku always look after his father and tries to resolve his problems but she too fails everytime and it results in arguments and quarrels. This movie shows the relationship between a father and a daughter who always argue with each other but also they love each other and care for each other.
Bhashkor don't want Piku to get married and wants her to look after him till his death. Irrfan as Rana played an important character in this movie who has feelings for Piku and also he founds Bhashkor as an intresting character.
Their journey from Delhi to Kolkata has some laughable moments and some impactful dialogues. The beauty of Kolkata and Bhashkor's love for Kolkata has been the highlights for the last 30 minutes of the movie.
The movie has an unexpected ending of Bhashkor and left Piku shattered. In final scene we can see Rana and Piku playing Badminton. Well a simple story but it said a lot. A lovely family drama which will bring your laugh out at many moments but also will surely left you emotional at the end.
I will rate this movie a 4 out of 5 stars.
