Review of Pig (2021) by Franzhcritic — 03 Aug 2021
It's impressive for a debut feature film, but like many first efforts, it's not perfect. It's writing possesses an uneven storyline and an inconsistent tone, although the themes of death and loss are well-explored.
The triumph in 'Pig' however, is the acting. Nicolas Cage puts on what is probably his best performance since 'Adaptation." He perfectly captures the loss and determination underneath a character clinging onto his sole true companion, even if it is simply a pig.
The movie as a whole left a lot to be desired, certainly with areas for improvement, but even with its sometime slow pacing, the realistic acting keeps from becoming just a weird, overreaching melodrama.
