Review of Pieces of April (2003) by Matthew B — 19 Feb 2009
CONSENSUS: Featuring the same talented screenwriter that brought us WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE? and subject matter recently tackled by 2008'S RACHEL GETTING MARRIED, we have without a doubt one of the best films of 2003.
Holmes turns in a fantastic (not to mention surprising) performance as the title character, stirring up both sympathy and likability for her. Clarkson is brilliantly eccentric and rude, but doesn't fail in creating pity for her character as well.
Platt is treat, fulfilling his role in a touching, satisfying way. A pleasant surprise in the midst of a fairly lacking year movie wise. MY GRADE: A-.
