Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Paul P — 01 Aug 2009
The idea is very fascinating, the execution of that idea is horrendous to say the least. This movie is amazing in the sense that practically every scene is overacted along with the idea of each scene. Did I miss the hidden sexual angst of the young girls? Oh one of them might be a lesbian, deep and profound...got it, my bad. This reminded me alot of the Hawaii vacation episodes in The Brady Bunch, but the craft in those two magical episodes is superior.
To get me through the last hour of this movie I kept singing the song "daisy" like HAL-9000 in my head. Also thinking about Chris Walken in that SNL skit where he's the gardener who's afraid of his own plants helped in a big way.
