Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Maria Z — 04 Nov 2007
Eerie and unsettling throughout. A huge amount of praise should go to the score, which makes the film linger with you long after the credits roll. It isn't without it's faults - one or two side stories didn't need to be there and none of the characters really stand out.
However, the film is beautifully shot. It's as if you're viewing a series of beautiful paintings. It almost ran out of steam towards the end but the mysteriousness of the girls' disappearance manages to keep the viewer sufficiently interested.
