Is this the most unnerving film ever made? Cruelly it juxtapsoses the gentle subtlety of lilly white schoolgirls with the overwhelming lure of the open landscapes, and supernatural malignancy creeping below the combined glare of cast and viewer, giving Australia its ultimate celluloid triumph.
It's a cunning take on meta-ficition, an act of indulgence, and all at the same time, a cautionary tale for the helplessly gulilble, who become as vulnerable as those girls helplessly wandering a netherworld of fact and fantasy.
"Post-modern" is the perfect understatement.
