Picnic at Hanging Rock is an absorbing and mysterious film. Weir's hypnotic atmosphere is easy to become lost in, like the geological maze in the film. Then, once you become lost, Weir shakes you up with strange emotional tension and relationships with no backstory.
The entire film is unsettling in the best possible way. This film takes place within the two hours it runs, it doesn't continue after you've finished watching it. It knows it's a film, and it lets you sit back and get lost in some great cinema.
