Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Will D — 28 Jun 2011
Starts out as a serene and romantic tale about repressed schoolgirls, and gradually Weir starts throwing some truly weird stuff into the mix. The result is a high-quality, mildly disturbing mystery which asks half-questions.
Somehow, he gets away with answering none of them, leaving one hell of a puzzle behind... all you know at the end of it all is that Hanging Rock is a bloody creepy place to go for a picnic. Easily Peter Weir's best film.
