Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Mirabella 1 — 28 Feb 2010
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK (1975).
Directed by Peter Weir.
This is one of my all-time favourite films .....ever.
An hypnotic, dream-like work, achingly beautiful to look at, haunting & fascinating to watch, full of the mystery & secrets of another, arcane world.
If ever a film were to prove that sometimes it is sufficient merely to pose questions than to be spoon-fed answers, this is the one.
It is the sort film that might result if Nicholas Roeg & Werner Herzog were somehow magically transformed into a single auteur & decided to create a masterpiece.
It remains beyond perfection.
My favourite line from the film : Mysterious, magical, marvellous Miranda muses that "everything begins, & ends, at exactly the right Time & place.".
*****5 out of 5 stars*****.
