Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Jens T — 13 Feb 2011
Peter Weir's adaption of Joan Lindsay's Picnic at Hanging Rock is a good, but daffy and some times feels to long, that I very often loose intrest. But they have captured the Hanging Rock feeling perfect, but that is not enough.
This is the tale about a girl school in Australia in the year of 1900, who decide one day to have a picnic near a unormal rock formation called Hanging Rock. The most of the girls just want to relax, but four of the girl want to check out the Hanging Rock, three of them hypnotized suddenly disappear. No one knows how.
After my opinon, this is not my kind of movie. You have the first 30 minutes is the part where the girl disappear, but the rest is just dreadful and some times boring. It feels like Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura. where the whole movie is the recovery and not the event. Picnic at Hanging Rock is not a bad film, but no a great film either.
