Review of Pickup on South Street (1953) by Roger T — 29 Aug 2009
A pretty generic little con-man, noir thriller. But the last 20 minutes have some amazing scenes that really made me realize why this got a Criterion Collection DVD. There is a huge fight scene between the Girl and he Ex-Lover that's all filmed in one take and has her crashing into tables and over chairs.
It's one of the most thrilling and shocking bits of cinema I've seen in a while. That single shot alone makes the movie jump from "enjoyable" to "really good".
