Review of Pickpocket (1959) by Jurgen H — 14 Oct 2007
Visually quite beautiful, and some of the camera work seems very racy for the time period - particularly as we follow the individual slight-of-hand tricks. I do have to say, though, martin lasalle may well be one of the most boring actors i've seen.
sorry, but he's johnny-one-expression through most of the film, and while this expression happens to fit the occasional moment, and fit it well, the whole lowered head, eyes-up, head follows slumped shoulder movement was just about all this guy did from scene to scene.
this was clearly a director's film, and bresson does work some magic.
