Who knew that mathematics and simple numbers could be so intense and intriguing. But of course in the hands of Darren Aronofsky, nothing is what it seems. Sean Gullette and Mark Margolis are downright mesmerizing in this psychological thriller about obsession and trying to break the code.

Pi is surprisingly involving, smart and with its insanely low budget, Darren Aronofsky has created something that even we will become obsessed with. The direction is stellar, my only complaint about this movie is the cinematography, it really put me off a lot.

Like black and white is not problem, but everything is very hazy. This is such a strange story to do, so it stunned me by how involved I was. You can tell that this and Requiem for a Dream were both by Aronofsky, signature quick editing and the head on rotational camera (briefly seen in The Hangover) are all used to great effect.

Although I personally prefer Requiem for a Dream over Pi, Pi is definitely unique and definitely deserves a watch. But be careful, you may find yourself becoming obsessed yourself. Pi is a great example of how superior filmmaking can be achieved on any dollar.

Thumbs up!
