Review of Pi (1998) by M G — 08 Nov 2012
Darren Aronofsky delivers a jarring film, utilizing much of the same stylistic elements seen in another Aronofsky film, Requiem for a Dream. The effectiveness of sound, repetitiveness and disorienting camera angles adds to the sensation of Pi's claustrophobic narrative.
Sean Gullette delivers a very committed and impressive performance. Pi is a very interesting film with a fascinating premise, and yes, this film is smart, and not just because of the mathematical ramblings.
Repeat viewings are necessary to appreciate just how nifty this low-budget indie film truly is.
