Review of Pi (1998) by Anna B — 29 Jan 2014
The script is beyond stupid (the writers exhibit a profound ignorance of all the things they're writing about, including mathematics, computers, even Jewish mysticism), and the third act practically turns into a silly action thriller.
But Aronofsky's twitchy style is fun to watch, back when it was designed to cover up the miniscule budget instead of just being a crutch to lean on in the absence of a strong narrative. Though Libatique's camera work has remained a beautiful trip.
