Review of Pi (1998) by Matt B — 29 Oct 2009
Darren Aronofsky always has some sort of losing battle in his films. The Wrestler fights against his way of life, Requiem of A Dream is all about fighting desperately against all kinds of addictions. In Pi there's this tragic truth that there's a line of knowledge in this universe that a human mind cannot reach or cross without being destroyed in the process.
Yet this nerdy mathematical genius fights to cross that line. Pi has interesting ideas and some damn impressive scenes about horrible headache attacks. Some repetitiveness could have been edited out and some of the camerawork seemed forced.
