Review of Pi (1998) by Caspar R — 13 Dec 2009
Pi is not good cinema. It's kinetic style is artsy in a way that makes it irritating, and the story is neither groundbreaking nor insightful. Pi is not boring and you won't fall asleep before it ends, but you also won't find any reason to connect with the characters or dig in deeper to solve the hidden puzzle (which really may or may not even be there to find).
Pi tries to put us into the head of a mentally unwell individual but unfortunately, neglects the other side of his personality. We get half of this man to work with, which is ultimately a half conducive to neiither a healthy lifestyle nor entertaining film.
I didn't enjoy this movie and I don't think there is really much to like here, at all. Whatever idea the film makers are trying to convey, they should have done it in a way that is pleasant to watch, so we could care.
