Review of Pi (1998) by Max C — 01 Dec 2011
This movie truly launched Darren Aronofsky's career as a brilliant driector of the psychologically dark. I first saw this movie when I was a high school freashman and I remember thinking that this movie was a giant WTF moment, at first.
After watching it again, I've come to realize that this is a dark masterpeice about obssesion driving one to madness. The grainy black and whiteness of the film gives it a neo-noir feel, and Sean Gullette gives a wonderful preformance as a mathimatical prodgiy who's own paranoia and social anxiety drives his downward spiral into a gripping madness that consumes him.
I just love this film so much, it really has driven me into the psychological thriller/ psychological horror genre. Well paced, shot and written, Pi is Darren Aronofsky's greatest film of all time.
