Review of Phoenix the Warrior (1988) by Sam S — 29 Mar 2008
This is what "Mad Max" would have been if Mel Gibson had had tits. In this high-class romp a bunch of chicks fight it out years after a nuclear apocalypse kills every man on Earth. Warriors with hard bodies compete for survival in a disappointingly tame yet still not terrible flick.
Other than some topless chicks showering in a waterfall there's no nudity whatsoever. For an action movie it's pretty boring. At least there's some nice looking legs, big 80's hair and some absolutely enormous 80's firearms.
And for being a cheap sexploitation flick this movie takes itself pretty seriously, and that actually makes it kind of endearing. Although there's one utterly bizarre sequence where mutated monks read TV Guide like it's the Bible and chant the names of popular tv shows while praying to the long lost airwaves.
This might have been meant to be funny, but it's not. Despite the great title "She Wolves of the Wasteland" receives no boners.
