Review of Philomena (2013) by Kyle A — 01 Mar 2014
Judy Dench gives one of my favorite performances of the year, allowing "Philomena" to hold the audience's interest throughout. The rest of the film is neat, in that the real life story unravels itself within a light drama that is heartfelt, yet not overly sentimental. It also does a good job treating people with a religious upbringing in a multidimensional manner, foregoing stereotypes for realism, which I much appreciated. I don't think "Philomena" is best picture worthy, but it's a good time at the movies for those of us that like a good drama, such as myself.
"Philomena" is Arpke Approved at 4 out of 5 stars.
