Review of Philomena (2013) by Aidan M — 06 Apr 2014
On that one particular day, when the moon and stars were aligned in a particular manner, I had a particular mood for movies and ended up watching three in one go. They all have one thing in common. They are all nominated for the best actress category in the Oscar 2014 awards. How peculiar. After that short marathon, you just have to admire the amazing work done by these actresses as well as their courage to tackle the characters given to them (because they are heavy stuffs that strains the soul).
At first Philomena looks like a movie only my old aunt would watch. The theme is pretty discouraging: a mother search for her long lost son. So lame. It turns out that this is quite a road adventure with some mystery solving and a few moral lessons to be learnt. I've enjoyed it, and so would my aunt.
