Review of Philomena (2013) by Beth J — 01 Jun 2014
Outstanding, though a rather sad film. It's really awful how unwed mothers were treated in the past and I'm quite sure it wasn't just the Catholic church that behaved this way. It's just very unfortunate that it ended in a sort of bittersweet way, though she seemed to gain a "son" through her friendship with Sixsmith.
I haven't read the book, but I do hope Anthony/Michael's sister kept in touch with Philomena. But I feel that this didn't happen.
