Review of Philomena (2013) by Robert S — 09 Apr 2016
Based on a true story, Philomena shines light on the issues of adoption and religion (in particular, Catholicism) in 1950s Ireland. Judi Dench gives a wonderful performance as a working class Irish-Catholic woman who searches for her long lost son with the help of a BBC journalist, Martin Sixsmith.
On their journey, their interactions has some funny moments that shows that Philomena is simple but not stupid and has the capacity to forgive the wrongs done to her unlike the Oxford educated Sixsmith.
Touching and heartrending in the final reunion of mother and son.
