Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Brett A — 13 Jan 2011
This deserved the oscars it got for incredible acting. It also blew the lid off the ideas and understandings of what it was to be homosexual.
It is dated now of course, and when you look back on it there are aspects that seem unreasonable... including the premise of how the main character contracted AIDS. I mean, it is possible, perhaps, in a one in a billion way... but not very likely.
It showcases how frightened we can be of things we do not understand... and how we over simplify...
