Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Jay R — 16 Aug 2009
This is Tom Hanks in his best performance ever. You've never seen him like this. While the movie has odd direction in some places, the story and plot are simple and execute superbly. Denzel Washington is great as are the other supporting cast members.
It's a simple concept (how a person who is gay/has AIDS overcomes society to win) with a bittersweet ending. It is definetly powerful, but it doesn't have that jaw dropping feel to it. Either way its a well made, dramatically tense film and Tom Hanks is the true hero in this.
Thumbs up!
