Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Tharuka W — 27 Nov 2009
Philadelphia shows us about the harsh reality of injustice towards homosexuals in a professional field. Tom Hanks delivers a heart breaking performance as a lawyer who has been infected with AIDS, then suddenly gets sacked from his firm.
The struggle that Andy Beckett (Tom Hanks) goes through for his justice is just so brave and empowering. Denzel Washington also holds his own as the lawyer that Andy Beckett has hired to fight the case against the law firm.
Even though at first he is a little uncomfortable and has second thoughts about helping a gay man with AIDS, he starts to understand about the homosexual lifestyle and that righteousness is for everyone regardless sexuality.
This movie is a tear-jerker, but also a movie where you can learn a lot about prejudice and that ?love? is still love for anyone no matter what sexual orientation.
