5 out of 5 stars. Based on a true story, Andrew (Tom Hanks) is a high level employee in the most prestigious law firm in Philadelphia who is fired after his co-workers become suspicious that he might be both gay, as well as infected with AIDS.
Through Andrew's struggles, this film focuses on society fears and misconceptions relating to AIDS and homophobia. Philadelphia is a ground breaking movie that covers topics that were previously taboo to discuss.
This is a sad movie not only in seeing how people who are lesbian or gay or people with AIDS are treated, but also in watching the process of someone with AIDS die.
