Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Edmund C — 20 Jun 2009
If The Academy Awards decided that Hanks' performance here was the best of 1993, it must have been a very slow year. In truth, Hanks doesn't do much to earn the best actor award and though he's not bad, he is actually overshadowed by Denzel Washington (for once not playing a cop).
Denzel is entertaining enough to make this film above average but the plot is too weak to make it a classic.
