Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Aniko V — 10 Mar 2010
Definitelz can't see the oscar material - or maybe better to say that it's typical that such simple moralising stories would get oscars, no surprise there. as much as I sympathise with the subject matter, I don't think this was a groundbreaking movie in any sense.
any poor beggar in a costume film can act out just as much misery and suffering and no one ever thinks of giving them an oscar for it. awards shouldn't be about personal sumpathies, people, they should be about outstanding achievement - in case of movies, that should be a cinematographic one.
and this, in that respect, is terribly mediocre.
