Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Mirva K — 11 Sep 2010
Hanks goes for the Oscar playing a lawyer fighting for his rights while slowly dying bcause of AIDS. In 2010 it's quite weird to the fear and loathing people infected with HIV went through in the early 90's when the disease was mostly referred as "gay plague".
Some sentimentality (the music on some of the court scenes borders on laughable) is a bit too much and Hanks' portayal of homosexuality and their relationship is handled very carefully (as to not offend more conservative viewers one assumes).
Solid Hollywood drama with a clear intention of going for the "golden boys" come march.
