Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Mar R. R — 09 Aug 2009
Showcasing one of Tom Hanks' finest performances, this is a heartfelt and emotional account of a man's battle with AIDs and his custody fight with the law firm that fired him because of his condition.
Hanks performance is sincere and honest and there is great support from Denzel Washington as they homophobic lawyer that defends him. The use of Bruce Springsteen's haunting "Streets of Philadelphia" adds to the tone and you cannot help but be engrossed by this film, right up the final tear-jerker of a ending.
