Review of Phenomena (1985) by Kyle V — 14 Oct 2009
This movie has some brilliant aspects, but they're damaged by a few glaring flaws. I love the basic setup; it's simply brilliant. The camerawork is nicely stylish, as befits the capital G Gothic plot.
All the performances are great (Donald Pleasence in particular), the gore is convincingly disgusting, and the climax, though a tad predictable, is still very satisfying. There are a few editing problems, but what really bothers me is the soundtrack, which consists of bad '80s metal, used inappropriately.
