Review of Phat Girlz (2006) by Lauren F — 19 Apr 2009
This film gets a lot of negative criticism as people see it as "hippo-critical" but I say this to those people, since when has it been hypocritical to want a gorgeous man who is totally and completely in love with you no matter what your size is? It is frustrating that the world's perception of "beauty" has changed to the point that fat women are called "ugly" because of their size and are expected to only fancy other fat people.
Mo'Nique spreads a bit of hope to all who feel ashamed of their own skin and feel unattractive every day because the world keeps reminding them of their "freakishness". We aren't freaks, we are fat! So? It's our health not yours! I love this movie, it is funny and inspiring and makes you feel that you are not alone and you don't have to be skinny to fulfill your dreams.
We know we are fully rounded, it just makes it easier to give warm and loving hugs! Thank you Mo'Nique, this movie needed making, boo!
