Review of Phantoms (1998) by Floyd C — 17 Oct 2009
I was highly disappointed...Mr. Koontz what the hell were you thinking when you wrote this adaption of your own novel? A novel that is both original and well crafted and has captivated readers for over two decades now.
The cast comes and goes and most of them seem to realize what they are dealing with and try their best, butstill, the overall effect is not a positive one. Affleck is horrible, but then again, when isn't he? McGowen is very uneven and Schreiber goes way over the top, something he usually doesn't do.
Peter O'Toole had the best lines and made me laugh out loud about seven times which is saying a lot because any reaction to this film is aside from a negative one is a plus I think. I would avoid it unless you really are just oen of those people that has to compare a novel to the film adaption like myself in which case I'd warn that disappointment is in your future.
..extreme disappointment.
