Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Mark J — 30 Jan 2018
Another stunning performance by Daniel Day-Lewis as dress designer, Reynolds Woodcock. Sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) as Woodcock's business and life manager is icy and dark. Vicky Krieps is intriguing as his muse and his lover who will not be tossed aside.
The story of these moody characters is dark, about class and classes, about the clothes of The House of Woodcock, and being firmly set in your ways until someone up ends your life.. Although the critics consensus says it is laced with humor, I didn't see it.
The star of this movie is Daniel Day-Lewis's captivating characterization with his physicality, his facial nuances and his gift of the English language. If this is indeed his last film, he will be greatly missed.
