Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Sue C — 05 Feb 2018
I'm disappointed that this unsatisfactory film is Daniel Day Lewis's swan song. This is not even in the same league as Paul Thomas Anderson's previous collaboration with DDL - the masterpiece of There Will Be Blood.
This film was bleak, empty and disappointing. It showcases what staying in a toxic relationship looks like. Aside from the costumes and production designs, there's not much this film offers. Even DDL cannot save this film.
Really surprised it beat other worthy titles (such as Mudbound, The Big Sick or I Tonya) to get a Best Picture nomination.
