Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Fernando S — 28 Jan 2018
A lousy, lousy story that is well acted and has mildly intriguing setting. Be aware -- if you expect couture or the craft of dressmaking to play a part in the narrative -- it absolutely does not. This is a story about a dysfunctional individuals who could be dysfunctional anywhere, in a restaurant, a publishing house, a manufacturing company, anywhere.
DDL and Vicky K. give ok performances, though 90% of Vicky's onscreen time is mumbling "Yes" as she smiles quizzically. Bottom-line: An absolutely missable film.
