Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Valentyne K — 30 Jan 2018
This could be about Princess Diana or Melania Trump, or any of us who have been seduced, willingly, by a man whose first love is his work, or himself, or his mother or his country. I won't use the word narcissist because I don't believe in that word. But it is about falling in love with a man and realizing that his need for you is... secondary. What do you do then? Each one of us deals with that realization differently.
Day-Lewis is in top form, mesmerizing. Krieps is captivating and utterly believable. Manville is fantastic. The direction was impeccable.
