Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Haze H — 08 Feb 2018
Such a strange film experience. I spent most of it irritated and/or bored and thinking I should just leave. The whole thing felt very anti-women beyond the period setting-- all of the female characters were manipulative parasites to the genius man who gave creative and emotional life to all.
The only character I really liked was Cyril, who was probably not meant to be liked, but there you are-- great performance Lesley Manville. The whole thing was fairly tedious save for the fashion, and then just as the movie took a bizarre turn and got interesting, it was over.
