Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Tamara H — 03 Aug 2018
I watched this movie during a special event that took place at my local public library. I had not had the chance to watch the movie trailer or read reviews on the movie before attending the moving showing and had no sneak peak into what the movie would be about. I do not agree that this movie should have won all the academy awards that are listed on the cover of the picture. I think that the movie was good, but I do not know if it deserved the best picture designation or even best actor & director. I thought the script was made fun of and not taken seriously by the actors. Also, the quality of the movie seemed old and outdated. I think that this movie could have been much better if the actors and directors would have taken it seriously.
Surprisingly though, the movie did turn out to be a success and had a good story line. The theme was from before my time, as displayed by the actors clothing and the quality of the film, such as the use of dim and old colors. Also, the vehicles and homes looked much older than anything that was built during my lifetime. I think that the actors in the movie also acted very conservative for the current time. There were scenes where the man seemed to be the more dominant figure and the women were inferior, which I did not like so much. I think that a remake of this movie would be much better.
