Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Dorian J — 29 Sep 2007
You know I like DePalma's film just a little bit more than the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sure it doesn't have Tim Curry in drag, or Meatloaf (Hot Patootie!), but the odd melding of Faust, Dorian Gray, and glam rock is really great.
The songs by Paul Williams are less glamorous, but they've got heart, and all the actors do their part well (Jessica Harper again, you lovely thing, and a singing voice to boot). It's too bad that the final scene seems such a haphazard mess because the rest of the film is tight.
